Refrigerant Dehumidifiers vs Desiccant Dehumidifiers

Which type of dehumidifier do I need?

There are a number of factors to consider when researching and comparing products and choosing the right size/capacity. Moisture Cure Commercial have a complete range of refrigerant and desiccant dehumidifiers. Which machine to use is dependent on the application.

Refrigeration-type systems are more efficient than desiccants at higher temperatures and high moisture levels. Refrigeration systems are seldom used for applications requiring less than 45% RH or conditions below 10 ˚C.

The main benefit of a desiccant dehumidifier is that it performs well when used in cooler climates, or when a low dew point is required. As there is no actual water produced during the process, these units can work effectively at sub-zero temperatures.

The table below compares two of our similar capacity machines:

If the conditions suit a refrigerant type machine then the lower purchase price and significantly lower power consumption would make it the preferred machine.

If the conditions are cool or the required humidity level is less than 45% then the wide operating range of the desiccant unit makes it the preferred machine.
