Client: Chevron, supplied via a Perth-based procurement partner

Industry: Oil and gas, remote industrial operations

Application: Humidity control in fly-in fly-out accommodation units

Solution: High-volume commercial dehumidifiers

Location: Barrow Island and Wheatstone, Western Australia

Scale: More than 1,500 units across multiple shipments

Barrow Island is a remote, environmentally sensitive location off the Western Australian coast, and the site of one of the country’s largest gas infrastructure projects, operated by Chevron.

Moisture Cure supplied humidity control for the on-site accommodation units through a long-standing Perth-based procurement partner.

Results at a Glance

  • 1,500+ units supplied across the LNG projects
  • 50-unit trial followed by an 850-unit order
  • 4 further bulk shipments of 200 to 500 units
  • Filled from Australian stock, no import lead time

The Challenge

The dongas used by fly-in fly-out workers sit in heat, humidity and salt-laden coastal air continuously.

That combination attacks both the living environment and the fabric of the units themselves.

The requirement was for equipment that could be:

  • Supplied in large quantities against a project schedule
  • Relied on in extreme coastal conditions
  • Maintained simply, because service attendance on a remote island is expensive and slow

Our Solution

The engagement started with a trial order of 50 units to prove performance on site before committing.

The trial succeeded, and within weeks a follow-up order of 850 units was placed and filled immediately from existing Australian stock.

Supply since then has included:

  • Four further bulk shipments ranging from 200 to 500 units
  • A mix of models matched to different accommodation and support building types
  • Ongoing supply across both the Barrow Island and Wheatstone projects

Holding local stock was the deciding factor on the 850-unit order. An import lead time at that point would have pushed the delivery past the project’s need-by date.

Results and Impact

Reported outcomes:

  • More than 1,500 units supplied across the LNG projects
  • Proven durability in one of Australia’s harshest operating environments
  • Rapid turnaround from Australian stock rather than import lead time
  • An ongoing supply relationship with Chevron across multiple project phases

This remains one of the largest deployments Moisture Cure has delivered, and the one that demonstrates capacity to scale without changing the specification.

Why a Trial Order Was the Right Start

Committing 850 units to a remote island on a specification sheet is a large risk to carry.

The 50-unit trial removed that risk for a fraction of the cost of getting it wrong.

A site trial answers questions a datasheet cannot:

  • How the unit behaves in salt-laden air over months, not hours
  • Whether the maintenance interval is realistic for the site’s actual service access
  • Whether the accommodation units’ power and drainage arrangements suit the equipment as delivered
  • What the failure rate looks like when handling and installation are done by site crews rather than technicians

For any bulk deployment into a remote location, a trial batch is the cheapest insurance available.
