Client: The Nut Shop
Industry: Specialty food production and retail
Application: Humidity control across processing, packaging and retail areas
Solution: Modular mix of medium and large commercial portable dehumidifiers
Location: Australia
Status: Ongoing supply as the business expands
The Nut Shop produces premium nut products, from raw and roasted through to spiced varieties.
Production, packaging and retail all run from a single site, which means three different humidity targets under one roof.
Results at a Glance
- 3 zones held at independent targets under one roof
- Modular system that scaled with the business
- Longer shelf life with less storage waste
The Challenge
Each area of the facility has its own environmental requirement, and they pull in different directions.
The three zones and their needs:
- Processing rooms need low humidity to prevent clumping and spoilage
- Packaging zones need precise control to protect shelf life at the point of seal
- Retail space needs to stay comfortable for customers while protecting open product
Holding all three under one roof gets harder as the business grows and workflows move between rooms.
Our Solution
Rather than one fixed installation, Moisture Cure supplied a modular mix of units matched to each zone.
The configuration:
- Smaller units for tight, localised control in specific areas
- Medium and large commercial portable units across the processing and packaging zones
This let the operator:
- Adjust the system as production expanded
- Hold the correct humidity in each room independently
- Avoid running equipment in zones that did not need it
Portable units were the right call because the layout keeps changing. Fixed ducting sized to last year’s workflow becomes a constraint the moment a line moves.
Results and Impact
Reported outcomes:
- Consistent product quality from production through to point of sale
- Longer shelf life, with less waste and fewer storage problems
- A setup that scales with the business rather than being replaced by it
- An ongoing supply relationship as new capacity comes online
“I just want to focus on making great food. These machines let me do that.”

Setting a Target for Each Zone
Zoned control only works if each zone has a defined target and something measuring against it.
The questions that set a zone target in a food facility:
- What is the product’s own moisture content, and which direction will it move at the room condition
- Is the product open to the air, sealed, or in the process of being sealed
- Is the room occupied, because staff comfort constrains how low the target can practically go
- How much moisture does the process itself add, from washing, roasting or steam
Answering these per room is what allows a modular system to run only where it is needed rather than treating the whole building to the tightest requirement in it.

Different Humidity Targets in One Building
Sites with processing, packaging and retail under one roof rarely work on a single setpoint.
