Client: ECS Botanics

Industry: Medical-grade cannabis cultivation

Application: Environmental humidity control in controlled growing environments

Solution: Commercial dehumidifiers across two cultivation facilities

Location: Victoria, multiple sites

Relationship: Several years of ongoing supply

ECS Botanics is a vertically integrated cannabis producer based in Victoria, focused on medical-grade cultivation.

Operating in a tightly regulated sector, the business needs precision climate control to hold compliance, crop health and product consistency at the same time.

Results at a Glance

  • 2 cultivation sites in Victoria
  • Room-by-room sizing rather than a floor area rule
  • Several years of ongoing supply as zones were commissioned

The Challenge

Indoor cultivation runs in a narrow humidity band, and the requirement multiplies across sites.

The system had to:

  • Prevent mould, mildew and condensation in the grow environment
  • Support strict regulatory compliance standards
  • Hold consistency across multiple growing sites, not just within one
  • Scale as new cultivation zones were commissioned

That last point ruled out a one-off installation. The requirement was a supply partner who would still be sizing rooms three years later.

Our Solution

Moisture Cure has worked with the ECS Botanics team for several years, supplying dehumidification into the Victorian facilities as they have developed.

The approach:

  • Equipment sized against room-specific load rather than a per-square-metre rule
  • Additional units supplied as new cultivation areas were commissioned
  • Units specified for 24/7 duty, with efficiency and durability weighted ahead of purchase price

Room-by-room sizing matters in cultivation because transpiration load changes with plant density and growth stage, not with floor area.

Results and Impact

Reported outcomes:

  • Stable growing conditions across both sites
  • Reduced crop loss risk through consistent humidity control
  • Regulatory compliance and operational consistency maintained
  • An ongoing relationship as the business scales

How a Grow Room Is Actually Sized

Floor area is the least useful number for sizing a cultivation room.

The moisture load comes from the plants, and it changes through the cycle.

The inputs that matter:

  • Transpiration rate, which rises through vegetative growth and peaks in late flower
  • Plant count and canopy density, since transpiration scales with leaf area rather than room size
  • Irrigation volume, because most of the water applied leaves the plant as vapour
  • Lighting load and air changes, which set the room temperature the dehumidifier has to work at
  • Target vapour pressure deficit for the growth stage, not a single fixed relative humidity

Sizing on peak transpiration rather than average load is what prevents the room drifting out of specification in the weeks that determine the harvest.
